    Physical properties: green cubic crystals with metallic luster, belongs to sodium chloride cubic crystal system. Melting point 3500℃, boiling point 4300℃, density 7.7.g/cm3. High thermal hardness, low friction coefficient, low thermal conductivity, the hardest carbide known.

    Chemical properties: insoluble in hot or cold hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid. Soluble in hot mixed solutions of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid. It is stable under 1000-1100℃ and oxidizes rapidly to niobium pentoxide above 1100℃.
