    Physical properties: Colorless crystals or white powder, melting point: 221℃, boiling point: 242℃, density: 3.68g/cm3. Soluble in ethanol, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and potassium hydroxide, insoluble in sulfuric acid.

    Chemical properties: Decomposes in moist air or water and produces tantalic acid.  Decomposes above 600℃ under hydrogen flow, release hydrogen chloride gas and produce tantalum.
